FUNCTIONAL COINS
Bottle Opener Challenge Coins

A growing trend in the world of custom challenge coins would be the insertion of a bottle opener feature within a traditional coin design. The dual purpose nature of this style of coin lends itself well within the community of challenge coin fans and collectors alike. With the roots of challenge coins being firmly entrenched in bars and drinking establishments of yesteryear, it only makes sense that a coin should be a bottle opener as well. So what does it take to make a coin a bottle opener? Firstly, its determining the shape of the opener you want for your coin with the two popular options being a cut out and lip inserted within the design to mimic a traditional bottle opener or a “hook” based bottle opener which is cut into the “edge” of a coin.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have compiled common questions and concerns about the ordering, designing and pricing processes of our company. If you don’t see the answer to your question below feel free to reach out to us!

How do I place an order?

The ordering process is really quite easy. Here is a breakdown of the steps to order a custom lapel pin from us here at Pincious.com:

  1. Fill out our free quote form or email us a description of your custom lapel pin. Be sure to include any design ideas you may have so we can create a free lapel pin mock up that is inline with your expectations.
  2. You’ll receive the mock up/proof from us for your custom pin within a business day’s time via email. Review the lapel pin design and reply back with any revisions you may require or letting us know you’d like to place your order.
  3. Utilizing a secure order form, you’ll provide your credit card details to pay for your order.
  4. Upon reception of your payment we will begin processing your order. Expect your pins to arrive in approximately 10-12 business days.
When do I pay for my order?

When you’re ready to place your order we will require payment in full before beginning production on your custom lapel pins.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept the following methods of payments:

  1. Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover)
  2. Purchasing Cards (Government and otherwise)
  3. Purchase Order (POs) from Government Agencies of all levels (City, County, State, etc.)
  4. Checks and Money Orders (clearing time may be necessary)
Do you charge a Mold Fee or a Setup Fee?

We do charge a mold fee unless your order is 500 coins or more in quantity. The mold fee and setup fees are determined by the size of your coin and any special features that affect the mold such as a 3D mold or Bottle Opener feature.

Do you keep my molds?

We keep molds on hand for a period of 2 years from the date your order is placed.

Do you really provide free artwork?

Yes we do! The artwork services we provide are obligation free and include revisions as well.

What size should my coin be?

That’s a good question. It would depend on a couple of factors:

  • Your preference: If you like coins at a certain size such as the most common size of 1.75″.
  • The minimum size required based off your design: If your design is complex, your minimum recommended size would be the smallest you would want to go.
  • Your application: If you require the coin to be used for an occasion that might call for a specific sized coin
What are Edge Cuts and what if I don't select one?

The default coin edge is the smooth raised border. If you opt to upgrade your edge we have edge cuts that are designs that are cut into that standard smooth raised border. Those edge cuts are the diamond cut edge, cross cut edge, rope edge and bezel edge.

How fast can I get my coins?

The manufacturing time for a coin starts at a range of 7-10 business days. Additional business days may be required when upgrading your coin design with options like edge cuts, 3D sculpting, dual plating, etc. The shipping time for an order being delivered to a physical address within the USA is 2-3 business days. If you require APO/FPO delivery, please know it could add 2 weeks of additional shipping time.

Do you ship to APO and FPO addresses?

Yes we do. It does come at an extra cost due to the requirement to ship your order from our factory to our offices and then ship it again with the US postal system.

How are custom challenge coins made?

Custom challenge coins are almost entirely hand-made and their production process can be summed up in these steps:

  1. Your digital coin design is converted to a CAD file and is sent to a CNC machine.
  2. We use the CNC machine to cut out a reverse image of your design into a steel die.
  3. The dies are placed into a stamping machine and a long ribbon of brass metal is hand fed into it. The machine stamps both sides of your coin design into the ribbon at the same time.
  4. Our craftsmen and craftswomen remove excess material from your coins in the form of any flanges and burrs. We use metal cutters and/or buffing to make your coins ready for the next step.
  5. We place your coins on a rack and dip them into a nickel electroplate bath. After this initial plating, we can finish the plating process by electroplating your coins in your desired finish be it gold, silver or black nickel.
  6. When your coins are plated, they are placed into trays and given to our painters. Using small syringers, color enamels are placed by hand onto your coin face, one side at a time. After they dry, we can paint the reverse.
  7. After the painting of your coins, they are baked to set the color enamels.
  8. Your coins are complete and are sent to our Quality Control team to ensure they are up to standard and are then packed into individual poly-bags.
Do you make small batches of custom challenge coins? What is your minimum order?

Our minimum order is 50 challenge coins of a design.

Do you accept my GPC or government purchasing card?

We are happy to accept GPC payments for your approved federal government coin or award orders.

What options, upgrades and other features can I add to my custom coin design?

We offer a wide range of options and upgrades for the custom challenge coins we make. Here is a list of some of them:

  • Antiqued finishes are available for gold, silver, copper and brass
  • Cut Outs, necessary for special shapes, dog tag coins and bottle opener coins
  • Edge Cuts in the diamond, cross cut, bezel and rope styles are available
  • Dual Plating, a mixing of 2 metal platings on the same coin
